FAQ

a) Is Project Devonia: ‘Manticore‘ (PD:M) going to be a full-fledged game?

What can a man do when he loves writing and making games? He must do both! But being an author primarily doesn’t allow me to devote enough time to develop a (bigger) game.

So while still made with professional aspirations I consider PD:M more as a proof of concept to get acquainted with the game engine and visual story-telling.

All things considered the game should take you about an hour to play through, maybe half of that if you’re speed running with no regard to exploring anything. (I haven’t actually clocked that, though, so I might be wrong here.)

b) When will PD:M be on sale?

It won’t. It's going to be free. Making an adventure game is since the days of MI and Indy a longheld dream of me so this is my motivation, though I certainly wouldn’t mind if someone were to support me by buying an ebook of mine.

c) I see no donation button but I would like to donate something.

The game is really free and you don't need to donate anything. If you really want to help you might consider buying one of my ebooks. It means a lot to me and it's less than a Big Mac, hehe. I write in German, though.

d) Why is PD:M categorized as sci-fi? There’s nothing really obvious going on in that regard, no?

The Devonia book trilogy, the game is based on, has a science fiction / horror setting. So while PD:M follows that world’s canon the events there are mostly just alluded to in the game. Game and books are storywise completely separated and you don't need either to understand the other.

e) Where can I learn more about the development process?

The main developer's thread is on the AGS forums, a further one in German can be found on adventure-treff.de, and a third more focussed  on character modeling exists here

Thanks a lot for reading. Hope to see you playing the game one day.

Install instructions

The game language can be set to English (default) or German. This can be done anytime by clicking Options and then just dragging the language slider left or right.

A - Instructions for Windows

You can start the game by double-clicking either WinSetup.exe or PDM.exe. WinSetup will allow for some settings (like full/windowed screen mode, RAM allocation, etc.) to be made but isn't really necessary.

------------------------------------

B - Instructions for Linux

The ZIP file is bigger as the Windows version because it contains a prebuilt Linux engine and libraries. This configuration might not work for every Linux distribution but should do for Debian, Ubuntu, etc.

To start the demo from the console enter:

./PDM

after the prompt and the game will be started.

As of time of writing there is a known issue where the engine and launch scripts will lose their "executable" flags. While this shouldn't be happening it still might for unknown reasons. A solution is to set the relevant files as executable manually.
